Visa, health, budget, precautions: preparing a trip to Egypt can seem complex. But with the right information, you can organize your stay with peace of mind. Here are all my practical tips to fully enjoy your adventure.
๐ Visa and formalities
For most nationalities (European, American, Canadian), the visa is easily obtained upon arrival at Hurghada airport. Count about 25 USD. You can also get an electronic visa (e-Visa) before your departure via the official Egyptian government website. Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your return date.
๐ Health and safety
- Water: Do not drink tap water. Prefer sealed bottled water.
- Pharmacy: Bring a small kit with painkillers, anti-diarrheals, and bandages.
- Sun: The sun is very strong. Use a high SPF sunscreen (SPF 50+) and wear a hat.
๐ฐ Budget and money
The Egyptian pound (EGP) is the local currency. Plan to have some cash for small purchases (souvenirs, tips). Credit cards are accepted in large hotels and restaurants, but less in small shops. Don't forget that negotiation is part of Egyptian culture!
๐ Culture and respect
- Dress: In the city, wear covering clothes (shoulders and knees covered) out of respect for local culture.
- Tips: Bakshish are a tradition. A small tip (5-10 EGP) for a service rendered is always appreciated.
- Language: Learning a few words of Arabic (like "Salam" for hello) opens all doors.
By following these tips, you will be ready to live an unforgettable experience in Egypt. And if you want to travel with peace of mind, I am here to accompany you from start to finish!
